The Mindy Project 3×14: 3 men and a baby!

danny and mindy

With Mindy taking center stage and her humour being on point, I can only hope a reference is made to the movie in which this blog takes its namesake…and Tom Selleck’s Mustache. With Morgan, Jeremy and Danny as our remaining lead males,  I am eager to see the added comedy a baby brings. Daddy issues, abandonment issues and Catholic guilt combined – I hope the Mindy Project stays on both coasts post-pregnancy for comedic effect.

But let’s get on with it. It, being the significant character development of Dr. Mindy Lahiri.

FILM REVIEW: COSMOPOLIS (2012)

DIRECTED BY: DAVID CRONENBERG
STARRING: ROBERT PATTINSON, PAUL GIAMATTI, SARAH GADON
RELEASED: 15th June 2012 (limited)
RATING: 3/5

Cronenberg attempts to deliver an artistic statement on capitalism in his adaptation of DeLillo’s Cosmopolis, and for the most part, fails.

Whilst there are certainly trying elements that elude to the story of a rich business man who sets out to get a hair cut but ends up with bounty on his head, they are lost beneath the film’s disconnected dialogue. In contrast to the exhausted juxtaposition of action scenes and big explosions, that is sadly emblematic of the modern cinematic hit, Cosmopolis‘s narrative is instead realised in the abstract camera work and profusion of limo scenes. The story itself is a strange entity, but it translates better on page than on the screen.

In a way, Cronenberg set himself up for box office failure by opting to direct this movie, but I doubt he was aiming for a billion dollar success, and in turn, this is why the flick hasn’t had the best distribution.

But, there are definitely reasons to watch Cosmopolis if you get the chance. Alongside Pattinson’s good looks, that are frankly eclipsed by the sheer authenticity of his portrayal of the megalomaniacal; Eric Packer, he and Giamatti spectacularly deliver their roles as if they’ve stepped out of DeLillo’s novel itself.

Verdict:

Despite its title, Cosmopolis fails to draw a large audience to the cinema. Although, It may be more attractive to a film student than a mainstream audience, Cosmopolis is definitely worth a watch for the iconic finale which is riddled with as much complexity as characters’ limbs are with bullets.
